Doug Nice @ The Druid
New Years' Eve 1999
Old friend Doug Nice makes his first virtual appearance on Soul
Donkey Music. Who is Doug Nice, you ask? Well, among other
things, Doug Nice hosted "The Club Scene" on WMBR with DJ Holiday and
DJ Bruno for several years and brought the concept of DJs in the pub to
reality through his work at The Druid and The Field. If you play
records in Boston, you probably owe Doug Nice a pint for the work he
has put in over the years growing and expanding the realm of
possibilities for the Boston-area house music scene.
This week, we travel back to October 31, 2004, where we will hear the
set that Doug Nice and The Soul Donkey dropped at the Boston
Architectural Society's 2004 Halloween party (Mark Chandler also played
but his set was lost in last year's Great Hard Drive Disaster).
Props to Jane (Yates) Galli as the original visionary who realized that
combining architects, alcohol, and house music would make for a
kick-ass party. Let's do it again some time!
Here is the original announcement of the party as it appeared in the BSA newsletter.
The accompanying photographs were taken at The Druid on New Year's Eve, 1999. What a difference a decade can make.
Coming soon to Soul Donkey Music: guest appearances from DJ Deepstate,
Maurice Wilkey, and Househead Pete! We build our house brick by brick.
Love and happiness,
Rodney Marable a.k.a. The Soul Donkey
